Fender Statocaster American Standard Finnguitar knows that Finn has changed from a using GIbson guitars to mainly use a Fender Stratocaster, American Standard and Fender Stratocaster, Mexican. Volume and tone controllers are usually set to maximum:

Rythm playing The volume control in the two upper positions are usually turned down to 8 to get a smoother and less overdriven sound when Finn is playing rythm guitar.
Playing lead The volume controller in most songs is set to maximum by Finn. All five position are used to play lead, but the uper position is used more than any other positions. The lower position is used to give a lot of edge to the sound as a variation often in the middle of solo. Often the volume is turned up to maximum to boost the volume and to get a bit more edge on the sound. Often also an overdrive pedal and/or a compressor pedal are used to create volume, sustain or a fatter overdriven sound.
See also section about effect pedals.

Rythm playing The volume is usually turned down a bit to get an even smoother sound when playing rythm guitar.
Playing lead Finn uses all three position to play lead. Often the volume is turned up to maximum to boost the volume and to get a bit more edge on the sound. The middle position provides a BB king like sound and the lower position gives a lot of extra edge to the sound. Often an overdrive pedal is used to increase volume, sustain and a fatter overdriven sound.
